Yoruba Oba Issues Warning To Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB

A traditional ruler in Osun State, Oba Hammed Adekunle Makama Tegbosun III, has warned Nnamdi Kanu and his Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) group against provoking the armed forces of Nigeria ahead of the general election.

Oba Makama issued the warning during a media chat at the palace of the royal father, Kuta in Osun, Vanguard reported.

He frowned at the call by Kanu and the IPOB for Igbos to boycott the general election, saying that the call was inimical to the development of Ndigbo.

Recall that Kanu had taken to his London-based Radio Biafra to call on people of the South East and South South zones to boycott the presidential election on February 16, adding that a Biafra Referendum would be held on that day.

But the traditional ruler urged his counterparts in the South East geo-political zone to caution Kanu and make him see that his call for boycott is a disservice to Igboland and an effort to provoke the country.

Oba Makama noted that Kanu and his co-travellers were deliberately trying to provide the armed forces with the call for boycott of the polls.

Similarly, he urged political actors in the general election against politicising security issues already being tackled by the military, noting that although they may be using such issues to score political points now but nobody will gain in the long run when such issues spiral out of control.

Describing the Nigerian military as an institution above ethnopolitical and religious ills, the traditional ruler pleaded with Nigerians to show regard for the sacrifices being made by troops, especially in the effort to rid the nation of the deadly Boko Haram insurgency.

“I cannot but award a credit mark to our armed forces their journey so far in taming the hydra-headed monster known as Boko Haram terrorists. Our troops need our individual support and concerted support through prayers and positive comments,” Oba Makama said.
