The convoy of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal was reportedly involved in the deaths of two persons in Kaduna yesterday. Scores more were said to have been injured in the accident.
An eyewitness said “the convoy was coming out of Deluxe Suites and hit the road trying to stop approaching vehicles in an effort to make way for the Speaker.
“In order to avoid collision with the Speaker’s convoy, a commercial bus with the number XA 863 FGE stopped abruptly which made other vehicles to ram into themselves. A Toyota Hiace with registration number XA 657 PAK in the process crashed onto a wall fence, killing two passengers, a lady and a man in the front while the driver and other passengers inside the vehicle sustained injury.
“The Speaker and his entourage did not bother to stop but proceeded towards Kaduna South on their way to Abuja. People were not happy about the development. They used their cars and other objects to block the road which caused traffic gridlock. This went on for about two hours as other road users tried to seek alternative routes to continue their journey.
“The joint team of military and police personnel was later deployed in the site under the command of Colonel Adebayo Fawole, who directed that the crowd be dispersed. A towing van was later brought to remove the damaged vehicles from the scene. The dead and injured were moved to Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital.”
However the Speaker has denied the involvement of his convoy, saying it may have been a preceding convoy that was in the area that caused the damage.
His media aide, Alhaji Imam Imam said, “maybe the entourage that went before the speaker’s was responsible.”
