Since registrations for the 2019 UTME started 26 days ago, the Joint Tertiary Admissions and Matriculation Examination Board have had a total of 1,205, 187 registered candidates and the number is expected to rise even further. The exams are slated to start on March 16 and run until March 23.
So far, Lagos and Kaduna have had the highest number of registration. While the former has a total of 161, 654, the latter has about 76, 049 candidates.
JAMb equally stressed that mobile numbers used for profile codes and the entire registration processes during the last edition of the exam cannot be used by another candidate again. This means that old candidates who plant to re-write the exam will need the phone numbers they used previously.
In a statement released on Monday through the office of its registrar, professor Ishaq Oloyede, the exam board explained that only accredited Computer-Based Test Centers will be able to carry out proper registration and facilitate the exam.
The statement reads,
“Previously used numbers for JAMB registrations can only be re-used by the same candidate, not another candidate. A previously used number is a GSM telephone number used for profile code creation, electronic pin vending and registration in previous registration exercises. This can be used for the 2019 registration only by the same candidate.
“The candidate who is using his or her previous number for the second or third time will use the same profile code to purchase the new electronic pin. If the profile code has been forgotten, the candidate can retrieve it through a text message. In other words, the old profile code can be used by the same candidate to procure the new electronic pin.”
