Serena Williams will no longer take part in this edition of the Australian Open tournament. She was defeated by Karolina Pliskova, a tennis star from the Czech Republic, in one of the quarterfinal matches.
Serena had taken the lead early on, beating Karolina 5-1 and 40-30. However, she began to have problems with her Knee in the in the third round of the match. Since she had to continue, Serena played below her capacity till the end of the game, losing out to Karolina in the process. The Czech star eventually won 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 and would be competing against Naomi Osaka in the semifinals of the competition.
Reacting to her defeat, Serena explained, “I can’t say that I choked on those match point. She literally played her best tennis ever on those shots.”
The Tennis legend refused to call the attention of her trainer when she got injured and mentioned that she’ll be fine.
