Senate adjourns sitting as only 10 senators attend plenary

The Senate had to adjourn plenary during their Tuesday meeting due to lack of quorum.

According to the senate standing rules, minimum of 37 senators are required to form a quorum. However, only 10 out of 109 senators showed up for the Tuesday meeting.

The sitting began with the adoption of  the Votes and Proceedings of Thursday 17th January, 2019.

Senate Chief Whip, Senator Olusola Adeyeye, however, raised a Point of Order, citing the lack of quorum to continue legislative business for the day, to which the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, agreed.

Standing in for Senate Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, Adeyeye moved for adjournment, and was seconded by the Minority Whip, Senator Philip Aduda.

The Senate President promptly adjourned sitting to Wednesday, January 23, 2019.

Reports also claimed that some Senators, who came into the chamber around 10.30am, while others who came a little later, met the day already closed.

Other Senators in attendance on Tuesday are Andrew Uchendu, Gbenga Ashafa and Shaaba Lafiagi, Emmanuel Bwacha, Francis Alimikhena, Suleiman Adokwe and Gbolahon Dada.
