Salah nets 50th premier league goal, joins “EPL African 50 Goals” club

2 Min Read

Egypt’s Mohamed Salah has joined the English Premier League African top 50 goals scorers, with his two goals in Liverpool’s 4-3 win at Anfield on Saturday.

Andros Townsend’s first-half goal brought Crystal Palace to a short-lived lead in the game. Just eight minutes into the second half, strikes from Salah and Roberto Firmino put Liverpool ahead.

James Tomkins headed Palace level, but an awful error by veteran goalkeeper Speroni, gave Salah a room to have his 50th goal in the Premier League.

Sadio Mane later added to the win, but Palace also netted a stoppage-time consolation through Max Meyer.

Out of Salah’s 50 EPL goals, 48 have come at Liverpool, with the other two coming for Chelsea in 13 league appearances. That gives Salah a total of 50 goals in 71 EPL appearances.

The 26-year-old becomes the eighth African player and first Egyptian to register 50 goals in England’s top-flight with his teammate Sadio Mane just two goals above him on the list.

Salah reached 50 goals for his club when he scored twice against Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Champions League. With 50 goals in 65 games, he became the fastest player in Liverpool history to reach the half-century mark.

It will be recalled that Salah won the Premier League Golden Boot last season after finishing with 32 goals.

That was the most a Golden Boot winner had scored to claim the award since Alan Shearer netted 34 times for Blackburn back in 1994-95.

Football stars on the The EPL African 50 Goals record include Didier  Drogba -104, Emmanuel Adebayor – 97,Yakubu Aiyegbeni – 95, Yaya Toure- 62, and Nwankwo Kanu –  54.

Others are Efan Ekoku – 52, Sadio Mane – 52, and  Mohammed Salah with 50 goals.
