The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that the senator representing Kogi West senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sen. Dino Melaye, is in its custody.
This followed what was believed to be Melaye’s abduction from a police hospital in Abuja on Friday.
Melaye is facing charges of attempted culpable homicide over the shooting of a policeman in his native Kogi State.
While receiving treatment at a police facility in Abuja, where his health is rumoured to have deteriorated, the senator was whisked away to an undisclosed location by armed plain-clothed and hooded men, sparking speculation that he had been abducted.
But the DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, confirmed that the senator was moved to a DSS facility for further treatment, Premium Times reported.
“The aim of bringing him to the Service’s facility is to complement Police efforts in giving the Senator a deserved medical attention.
“The Service, in line with medical ethics and spirit of inter-agency cooperation, accepted him,” Afunanya said.
