Roger Federer Defeats Serena Williams at Hopman Cup

2 Min Read

Roger Federer came out victorious when he faced Serena Williams at Hopman Cup. It was indeed a historic one. Despite having a combination of 43 Grand Slam singles titles, the duo had never faced each other in a match before then. Federer won 4-2 4-3 (5-3). The match would serve as perfect preparation for Federer’s defense at the Australia Open later this month.

Talking to newsmen after the match, he said, “It was great fun. What a pleasure. What an honor. Thank you for making it possible.”

He also mentioned, “I was nervous returning. People talk about her serve so much and I see why it is such a wonderful serve because you just can’t read it.”

Serena equally expressed her delight after the match. She admitted that most parts of the match was filled with laughter and was more of an exhibition. Serena then explained that she wished the match had not ended as early as it did, claiming that it was a “great experience”.

She said, “I’m sorry it had to finish, I was just warming up. It was such fun, we grew up together. It was super cool. I wanted to take pictures and bring my baby out.”

“This guy is great, both off the court and on the court. I think his serve is super-underestimated. It’s a killer serve, you can’t read it. I watched him all the time and I never knew how amazing it was.”
