Fayemi’s wife warns mothers against giving birth at home

Bisi Fayemi

The Wife of Ekiti Governor, Mrs Bisi Fayemi, has urged women in the state to desist from giving birth at home as such practice is dangerous and life-threatening.

She gave the advice on Tuesday while receiving the first three babies of the year at a comprehensive centre in Ido-Ekiti, Okeyinmi Health Centre and Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti.

The governor’s wife said that government had made it easy for women to go to hospitals for delivery as there were many health centres located at various communities in the state.

Fayemi said children were free gifts from God, hence the need for parents to give them proper and sound training.

“Receiving the first baby of the year is seen as a symbol of God’s abundance and love for us and also a way to show love to the newly-born and mothers,’’ she said.

The first baby of the year, a baby boy, was born at the Comprehensive Health Centre, Ido-Ekiti, at about 12:04 a.m. on Tuesday to the family of Mr and Mrs Tope Akilo.

The Olojudo of Ido-Ekiti, Oba Ilori Faboro was at the presentation of gifts to the baby and the handover of the baby to the wife of the governor.

The family of Adebayo Aderonke had the second baby of the year at Okeyinmi Health Centre, Ado Ekiti

The baby, a female weighed 2.8kg.

The third baby was given birth to at 12:09 a.m. to the family of Mr and Mrs Kehinde Babalola; weighed 2:65kg at the Ekiti State Teaching hospital, Ado- Ekiti.

All the newly-born babies’ hospital bills were settled by the first lady and she also presented them with gifts.

The wife of the governor also paid the medical bills of about six other patients at EKSUTH at the cost of over N500,000. (NAN)
