How Trump Halted Visas For Nigeria With Embassy Shut Down

Any Nigerians who hoped to go into the American Embassy for a visa interview with the view to travel to the United States will be unable to do so for the foreseeable future.

This is due the American embassies in both Lagos and Abuja closing down mirroring the shut down of the government in the United States following an impasse between the Presidency and the legislature.

The US Embassy’s Facebook page announced this in a post and they revealed that they will reopen once the conflict is resolved.

“Due to the current U.S. government shutdown, the American Centers located in the Embassy, Abuja and Consulate General, Lagos are unfortunately closed,” the post read.

“They will re-open once the U.S. government shutdown is resolved. Sorry for any inconvenience to our valued patrons.”

Government Shutdowns have become quite common in the United States in the last year with this current one which started on the 21st of December, the third of 2018.

It usually occurs when there is a disagreement between Government on how money should be spent in the fiscal year.

This particular one has everything to do with the US/Mexico wall that President Donald Trump has said must be built and wants to allocate $5 Billion to, but which Democrats are uncomfortable with.
