Barely two months after Boko Haram insurgents attacked Mifa, in Chibok LGA of Borno State, killing the village head, the insurgents on Sunday attacked Makalama, a village in Gatamwarwa ward of Chibok.
Recall that Chibok came under worldwide scrutiny in April 2014 when 276 girls were kidnapped from the Government Girls Secondary School located there.
Makalama is about 21 kilometres away from Chibok town.
Speaking about the latest attack, a Chibok resident said, “They came in this (yesterday) night through the nearby deserted Gogumdi village.
“They started shooting and people have been running to the bushes. Our troops here at 117 task force battalion are getting set to move in now.”
The attack was said to have occurred as villagers, who are mostly farmers, were preparing to harvest their farm produce.
The insurgents were said to have started looting the farms after scaring the farmers away with gunshots.
Army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman confirmed the attack, TheCable reported.
“Yes, there was reported presence of suspected armed men in a village called Makalama, about 23 km from Chibok in which troops have responded. However, I will investigate further,” he said.
