Fani-Kayode Responds To Video Showing Nigerian Army Shooting Shiites

2 Min Read
Fani-Kayode

Former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has reacted to a video released by the New York Times which showed Nigerian Army personnel shooting at members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as Shiites.

The video was shot on October 29, during protests by Shiites demanding the release of their detained leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

According to the paper, Nigerian Army authorities’ claim that army personnel acted in self-defence when they shot at the protesters was contracted by the video from the incident.

“The video from the march clearly contradicts those claims. The melee began that day as more than 1,000 marchers approached a military checkpoint. Soldiers arrived to block off the road. An armored vehicle with high-caliber weapons patrolled the highway. After soldiers began to fire, they targeted protesters fleeing the chaos. Many of the injured were shot in the back or legs,” New York Times reported.

Reacting, Fani-Kayode said, “I saw the video of the Nigerian Army slaughtering Shiite Musiims. If it is not Fulani herdsmen or Boko Haram doing the killing it is the Army or Malian terrorists. Thousands slaughtered all over the country. The pain is real. The tyranny is real. The trauma is real. The evil is real.
