The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Sen. Shehu Sani, has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari’s purported admittance that the economy is in a “bad shape”.
The Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) and Zamfara Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, disclosed the president’s comment while briefing State House correspondents shortly after Buhari met the 36 state governors in a closed-door meeting on Friday over the proposed new minimum wage.
Yari said that after telling him of their mission, the president thanked them and said “the economy is in bad shape and that we have to come together, think and rethink on the way forward.”
Sani, who took to his verified Twitter handle hailed Buhari for his candour.
However, he added that no president anywhere else in the world could have made such a statement two months before a general election.
Sani said, “President Buhari admitting that the economy he manages is in bad shape is an act of honesty and courage to tell the truth. Many will lie for votes. I don’t know of any President in history or anywhere around the world who will make this kind of statement two months to general elections.”
