How Goodswill Akpabio’s Wife Compromised Aisha Buhari’s Security

2 Min Read

In what can only be defined as an act of over-eagerness, the wife of Senator Goodwill Akpabio caused a bit of a kerfuffle when Aisha Buhari visited Akwa Ibom state.

According to the Punch, the incident took place at the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, where the First Lady was set to land.

Mrs Akpabio, in an effort to be first to greet the first lady moved a little too quickly, which in turn made protocol officers skittish and the First lady had to retreat while Mrs. Akpabio was calmed down.

According to the Punch, Mrs. Buhari was set to descend from the plane when Mrs Akpabio went on to allegedly push Mrs. Martha Emmanuel, wife of the Akwa Ibom governor, in a bid to greet the First lady first.

Things eventually calmed down and the First lady was able to make her way down and be greeted by the people who were designated to do so.

The Press Secretary to Senator Akpabio, Anietie Ekong, dismissed the report stating that there wasn’t a breach of protocol even though he was not there in person to witness it

“There was nothing like breach of protocol, though I was not at the airport. I have watched the video and there was nothing like that. It was overzealousness on the part of the governor’s wife’s security. The senator addressed this in the course of his speech today.”
