Supersand Eagles fall again as Senegal hold on to CAF beach soccer title

2 Min Read

Nigeria’s beach soccer national team on Friday at Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt lost 1-6 to Senegal in the final match of the 2018 CAF Beach Soccer Cup of Nations.

The Supersand Eagles thus emerged vice-champions of the African continent, after qualifying for the 2019 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup finals in Paraguay in the process of qualifying for the final.

Nigeria and Senegal had opened the hostilities in Group B of the continental finals on Sunday, with both teams locked at 4-4 after regulation and extra time.

Senegal, four time champions and Cup holders, later won 2-0 after penalty kicks.

On Friday, the Senegalese were more vicious and, in spite of the second period ending at a respectable 2-1, they went all fangs out in the third and final period to win 6-1.

Abu Azeez, the worthy veteran who scored four goals in the 7-6 defeat of hosts Egypt in the first semi-finals on Wednesday, took his Nigerian tally to 104.

This was after he scored the Supersand Eagles’ only goal of the match, going on to finish the tournament with eight goals.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that both Senegal and Nigeria will represent Africa at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Paraguay in 2019.(NAN)
