Lawmaker Alleges Plot to Impeach Osinbajo over NEMA Fraud Scandal

2 Min Read

A lawmaker of the lower house in the Nationa;l Assembly has alleged the existence of a plot to impeach vice-president Yemi Osinbajo.

According to the member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Johnson Agbonayinma who represents ‎Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency, Edo State, alleged that some members of the National Assembly had started collating signatures of other members with the aim of impeaching Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

Small Doctor Charged to Court for Illegal Possession of Firearms

Agbonayinma made the allegation while addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday where he said;

“Some political gladiators and media houses were ‎sponsoring fake news against Osinbajo. The reason is because of the NEMA investigation,”

The lawmaker however failed to mention names of individuals behind the alleged plan to impeach the vice president, although he said some disgruntled members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were involved in the plot.

The House of Representatives had set up an investigative committee to look into the affairs of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) giving the high volume of petitions against the agency and its Director-General.

Presenting its findings before the House, the investigative committee indicted vice president Osinbajo as well as the DG of NEMA for fraud amounting to N5bn.

This had generated a heated debate in the Nigerian media while the DG of NEMA and the office of the vice President who happens to be the chairman of the board of NEMA rejected the report and indictment of the National Assembly.

Although the House had directed that the necessary anti-graft agencies take action on the matter, their silence has been deafening as nothing seems to be done on their part.

Several activists who had taken to social media to call out the vice president to answer the allegations of fraud against him were arrested by the police, including popular rights campaigner, Deji Adeyanju
