A 24-year-old man, Idowu Tiamiyu, who allegedly stabbed his co-tenant, Seun Olapade, with a broken bottle on the head and hand, on Monday, appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Tiamiyu, a resident of Pako area of Ajegunle, is facing one-count charge of assault, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Ferdinand Asu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Nov. 8 at their residence.

Asu said that the defendant beat Olapade to a pulp and also stabbed him with a broken bottle on the head and left hand.

“The fight started as a result of an argument that ensued between them. The defendant claimed that the complainant was rude to him; so he decided to teach him a lesson by beating him up.

“All efforts made by other tenants in the compound to settle the dispute failed,’’ Asu said.

He said that the offence contravened Sections 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 173 prescribes three years jail term for assault occasioning harm.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Michael Olubi, granted the defendant a N50, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until Dec. 12 for mention. (NAN)
