Nigerian troops foiled an attempt by the ISWAP insurgents to infiltrate the 118 Battalion located at Arege in Abadam Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Nigeria Army confirmed the news through its social media handle saying the attack occurred on Wednesday.

According to the army;

“Boko Haram was completely routed by the troops, neutralizing many of them while others fled in disarray due to superior firepower. As a result, they hastily evacuated most of their corpses under the cover of darkness.”

This comes just as the Nigerian President; Muhammadu Buhari just concluded a visit to the theatre command of operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri where he urged troops to crush Boko haram and its affiliates once and for all.

The President also visited troops wounded in the Metele attack at the army field hospital where he assured them of the country’s support in the fight against insurgency.

The Military hierarchy also paid a visit to the widows of soldiers who died in recent ISWAP attacks against troops in Borno.

The air was charged and highly emotional as the military hierarchy expressed its condolences and thanked the families of the fallen heroes for the sacrifice of their loved ones on behalf of the Nigerian state.
