Two People’s Democratic Party aspirants for the Osun governor’s office, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, and Hon. Wole Oke have announced their withdrawal from the race, even as the party’s primaries are slated to hold today in Oshogbo.
The candidates have cited their loss of faith in the conduct of the State Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa, whom they say is working for another candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore.
The candidates who dropped out also stated that Omisore was willing to kill and maim to secure the ticket and that they would not want to put the lives of their supporters in danger.
Adeleke said that the party machinery had been hijacked to favour Omisore and that he would only contest at a time when a transparent primary could be conducted. He said his stepping down should not be seen as an act of cowardice, but because of “an aspirant desperation and determination to “maim and kill to secure the ticket at all costs.”
