Senator representing Kano Central and former governor of Kano State Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso has stated the role he played in the bribery scandal involving the current Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

South Africa Increases Minimum Wage to Equivalent of N126, 480

He made his role in the entire affair known during a live radio interview at Aminchi FM where he said he was aware of the videos showing Abdullahi Ganduje receiving American Dollars as bribe from some contractors in the state.

Kwankwaso revealed further that he was aware of the existence of the videos before they were released and he tried to d everything within his power to stop its release to the public.

Senator Kwankwaso said he pleaded with the Publisher of the online newspaper, Daily Nigerian, Mr. Jafar Jafar not to release the videos.

He said his pleas fell on deaf ears as the editor went ahead to release the videos to the public much to his disappointment.

“I was aware of the video clips before they were released to the public and I pleaded that they should not be released, but they didn’t listen to me.

I am not happy that the video clips were made public because it is an embarrassment to the state and its people, including myself.” He said

Abdullahi Ganduje was seen in a series of videos that spanned 6 series collecting stacks of US dollars from an individual and stuffing them in the white babariga he wore; the Kano state governor is known for his white babariga attire.

The stacks of dollars were allegedly bribe money being paid to Ganduje by state contractors according to the publisher of the video who also testified before an investigative committee of the Kano State House of Assembly.

The first video was released on October 11 while five other videos have followed in its wake.

The Kano state Governor however denied the allegations and got a court injunction stopping his investigation by the state house of assembly.

Ganduje also sued the online newspaper for N3 billion, despite earlier intervention by the House of Assembly that he should not do so while the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have refused to investigate the allegations.
