Alhaji Danjuma Sallau, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, made this known during a meeting with local government officials and community leaders at Sarkin Pawa settlement in Munya Local Government Area.

“The Niger State Government is making efforts to collaborate with the Kaduna State Government to checkmate the activities of armed bandits, kidnapping and other heinous crimes here.

“We want you to be rest assured that government is making plans to curtail the activities of these criminal elements within the two states,’’ he said.

Sallau said that peace in the area was being threatened on daily basis owing to the activities of the criminal elements, hence the need to curb it.

According to him, “heinous crimes perpetuated in this area is being traced to the vast and thick jungles within the border communities of the two states.’’

He called on community leaders, security agencies and the council officials to work together toward ensuring peace in the area.

The Commissioner enjoined parents and guardians in the area to counsel their wards against political thuggery, drug abuse and other vices, adding that anybody caught would be made to face the law.

Earlier, Malam Yahuza Mohammed, Chairman, Munya Local Government, had said that in order to reduce unemployment, government had recruited many youths as teachers to minimise idleness.

Mohammed promised to do everything possible to ensure that youths in the area realised their potentials, and urged them to shun criminal activities and embrace hard work.
