White House Loses to CNN, Ordered to Return Press Pass to Reporter

2 Min Read

The White House has been ordered by a Washington DC court, to return the press pass issued to Jim Acosta of the CNN

This was after the White House had revoked Acosta citing that he was rude and assaulted a woman during a press conference with President Donald Trump.

CNN along with much of the public agreed that the reporter was innocent and the news organisation sued the President and a number of members of his staff for the incident

Acosta was pleased with the decision, while White House Press Secretary, Sarah Huckerbee Sanders, said that the White house would comply with the court’s order

She did add, however, that she would “also further develop rules and processes to ensure fair and orderly press conferences in the future”

Judge Timothy Kelly in his decision, said that the right of the Press (CNN and co) was larger than the White House’s right to have an orderly news conference

Kelly lamented the decision to revoke Acosta’s pass saying that the decision was “so shrouded in mystery that the government could not tell me… who made the decision”

Reacting to the news, CNN released a statement saying: “We are gratified with this result and we look forward to a full resolution in the coming days.

“Our sincere thanks to all who have supported not just CNN, but a free, strong and independent American press.”
