A retired top Naval Officer was forced to part with monies totaling N510 million to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Rear Admiral, Tahir Yusf (retd.) who happens to be the former director of accounts in the Nigerian Navy, temporarily forfeited the sum of N510 million to the EFCC domiciled in two accounts.

The accounts include Bitmas Enterprises domiciled in Zenith Bank and Tahir Yusuf domiciled in Skye Bank in local and foreign currency totaling N510 million.

The forfeiture was ordered by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja after a motion of forfeiture was filed by counsel to the EFCC, Mrs. Elizabeth Alabi on behalf of the commission.

Earlier in February, Justice Ojukwu had granted an ex parte motion filed by the EFCC seeking to freeze seven accounts belonging to the retired Rear Admiral.

This temporary forfeiture had come on the backdrop of the anti-graft commission approaching the court to seek permanent forfeiture of the accounts alleging that the monies contained therein were stolen from the purse of the Nigerian Navy.

Granting the prayers of the EFCC, the court said that the order be published in a national newspaper and on the website of the commission and thereafter adjourned till November 28 for further proceedings.
