The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),Prince Uche Secondus, says credible election in Nigeria would further deepen democracy in West Africa.

Secondus made the assertion when he met with Election Team of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) led by Mohammad Conteh at the party’s National Campaign headquarters in Maitama, Abuja .
He was quoted as having made the observation in a statement by his Media Aide, Ike Abonyi, and also advising the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure credibility of the 2019 general elections.
He said that history would pass an unkind verdict on INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, if he failed to conduct free and fair election in 2019.
Secondus accused the INEC Chairman of not willing to follow electoral laws and constitution as well as the laid down international standards in his processes toward 2019.
“They have finished plots to isolate states of Kano, Benue, Rivers, Bauchi, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Imo and Kwara and Lagos for disruption during the general election so that they can plan well to mobilise the rigging.”
He also alleged that the commission’s rigging agenda was being propelled by the security agencies.
Secondus said that his party was using the INEC template it saw in Ekiti and Osun to reiterate its lack of confidence in the commission.
He advised INEC to disregard the size of Nigeria and go to Ghana and pick some lessons on how to conduct free and fair election.
The PDP National Chairman, however, commended the judiciary for standing up for democracy.
Reacting to the development, the Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, said that there was no iota of truth in the allegations by the PDP.
“The Commission is focusing on preparations for the 2019 General Elections at the moment and will not join issues with any political party, especially the one that has perfected the art of raising false alarm,” Oyekanmi said.
