Nnamdi Kanu: Court Okays Suit Seeking to Jail Fani Kayode, Senator Abaribe

The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Friday, cleared a suit seeking to compel the Nigeria police and The Department of State Security (DSS) to arrest and prosecute people who stood as sureties for the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) group, Nnamdi Kanu.

Nnamdi Kanu had been on trial before Justice Binta Nyako at the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges of treason.

The IPOB Leader had been granted bail after providing sureties which included former Minister for Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, Tochukwu Uchendu, and Emmanuel Shallom Ben.

Nnamdi Kanu had however disappeared a few months later after an invasion of his Enugu residence by men of the Nigeria Army leading many to declare him missing.

Prior to the invasion, Nnamdi Kanu had flouted all conditions of bail he had agreed to adhere to.

After disappearing for nearly a year, Nnamdi Kanu surfaced last month in Jerusalem where he alleged that he had to run for his life due to the threat from the Nigerian military.

A suit had been filing seeking to compel the security agencies to try the sureties for the IPOB leader upon his re-appearance in Jerusalem.

Consequently, the court gave a go ahead for commencement of the suit to prosecute certain individuals for allegedly aiding the escape of Nnamdi Kanu, from Nigeria.

Ruling on an ex parte application, Justice John Tsoho granted leave to the plaintiff, Mr. Isiah Ayugu, to commence the suit.

He also ordered that the suit be served on the defendants; the DSS, its Director-General, the police as well as the Inspector-General of Police and fixed November 22 for the commencement of hearings.
