Donald Trump Fires Attorney General Jeff Sessions

2 Min Read

American President, Donald Trump has let go of controversial Attorney General, Jeff Sessions and replaced him with Matthew Whitaker

“At your request, I am submitting my resignation,” the former AG said in the first line of a letter released by the Department of Justice.

The relationship between Trump and Sessions has been a contentious one. This was mostly due to the fact that Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation, therefore leaving the President to fend for himself against all the various allegations.

Trump also announced the change on his Twitter, saying: “We thank Attorney General Jeff Sessions for his service, and wish him well! A permanent replacement will be nominated at a later date.”

How the departure of Sessions would impact the investigation of Robert Mueller into allegations of collusion by Trump with Russia over the 2016 elections remains to be seen.

But at a press conference, Trump claimed that while he could fire anybody he wanted right now, he also is holding back from doing it

“I could fire everybody right now, but I don’t want to stop it because politically I don’t like stopping it,”  he said to the White House Press conference

“I am not concerned about anything with the Russian investigation, because it is a hoax,” he said. “There’s no collusion.”
