The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Sen. Shehu Sani, has lambasted the police for downplaying alleged assassination attempt on Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu and his family.
Some assailants had on Tuesday morning invaded Ekweremadu’s residence in Apo, Abuja, which the Enugu senator described as an attempted assassination.
But reacting to the incident, police authorities described it as a “burglary”.
“Preliminary investigation carried out so far did not reveal assassination attempt on the life of the Dep Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu and his family but a case of Burglary,” the police said in a tweeted message.
However, Sani queried how the police arrived at its conclusion that the incident was a burglary and not an assassination as claimed by the deputy senate president.
Sani, who took to Twitter on Wednesday morning, said an individual would have to die before the police would be convinced of an attempt on the person’s life.

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) senator said, “The recent downgrade of the assassination attempt on DSP Ike’s life to ‘a burglary attempt’ means that for one to prove and convince the security agencies that there is a threat to his life, he or she has to actually be killed; And to prove more convincingly, he has to be buried.”
