N30,000 Minimum Wage, Impossible- Femi Adesina

2 Min Read
Adesina

With the fight for more sustainable minimum wage being undertaken by the National Labour Congress, an aide of President Buhari, Femi Adesina, has said that it is impossible.

The outspoken aide said that N30,000 a month was impossible even if public officers slashed their wages.

The Federal Government had offered N24,000 a month, but the NLC disagreed, holding out for N30,000 or the promise of a strike action.

Adesina who was a guest on Channels Television, said that the demands from the NLC cannot be met. He noted that there are states struggling to pay the N18,000 and would surely be unable to pay N30,000.

“So if they can’t pay N18,000 and labour is asking for N30,000 and they refuse to come lower, there may be a stalemate which will not be good for the country,” he said.

“I think in the spirit of negotiation, labour should not insist on N30,000.”

When asked if the reduction of the wages of the political class could be used to somehow meet the demands of the labour congress, Adesina responded by saying he really doubted such a thing would be enough.

“Even if they decide not to collect anything, it still doesn’t take care of N30,000 minimum wage; it doesn’t.

“Maybe if the members of the national assembly concede part of their salaries and allowances, it can make a dent on minimum wage. But other office holders dont earn anything outrageous.”
