The Ilorin Branch of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has vowed to take legal action over alleged brutalisation of one of its members, Mr Lukman Bello, by Police in llorin.
Chairman of the branch, Mr Mohammed Akanbi, made this known speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in llorin on Monday.
Some policemen from Traffic Section of “A’’ Division Police Station in llorin, recently harassed and molested Bello while he was trying to bail someone in their custody.
Akambi described the police action as “undemocratic and barbaric’’ and said that the association would challenge it at the Federal High Court.
He said that the action of the police against lawyers in the state was the fourth since he assumed office as chairman.
Reacting to the allegation, Police Spokesman in the state, Mr Samuel Okasanmi, said that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Fafowora Olaniyi, had intervened in the matter.
He said that investigations on the alleged brutalisation of the lawyer had reached an advance stage and that the culprits would be sanctioned appropriately.
“The state police command cannot persuade the NBA from going to court over the issue but our investigations will get to logical conclusion,’’ Okasanmi said. (NAN)
