Breaking news from the headquarters of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) indicate that policemen numbering about 50 broke open the gates to the headquarters of the NHIS, escorting the suspended Executive Secretary, Professor Usman Yusuf, into the premises.

Several newspaper correspondents on the scene reported that the invading policemen fired tear gas to disperse members of staff, who had attempted to prevent Usman from gaining entry into his office.

The latest incident had happened on the backdrop of the suspension of the embattled NHIS boss Prof. Usman Yusuf who had been suspended by the governing council of the NHIS.

The governing board of the NHIS had suspended Yusuf on allegations of fraud, mismanagement and insubordination.

The NHIS boss had however remained defiant and insisted that the board had no power to suspend him as they did not appoint him in the first place.

He insisted that only President Buhari could remove him from office as he was the one who appointed him in the first place.

Yusuf had been suspended earlier on allegations of mismanagement of public funds as members of staff of the agency had protested against the executive secretary.

He was reinstated by President Buhari who cited that he found nothing wrong with the NHIS boss to the displeasure and wrath of the staff and management of the health insurance agency.

In defiance of his suspension, men of the Nigeria Police force had taken over the NHIS as staff members locked the gates to prevent Prof. Usman from gaining entry into the premises.
