A man identified simply as Christian has died following an altercation he had over payment for N200 beer in a beer parlour in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State on Saturday.
According to reports, quoting eyewitnesses, Christian had tried to intervene in an argument between the beer parlour owner, one Temitope Adedayo, and a customer, Femi Olatokunbo, who bought a MORE beer worth N200 and refused to pay.
Adedayo had said she would not allow 23-year-old Olatokunbo leave without paying for his drink but Olatokunbo threatened to beat her up if she did not step out of his way.
Christian had intervened and told Olatokunbo to beg if he did not have money to pay and Olatokunbo called him a “woman wrapper” in response.
This degenerated into an argument and then a fight during which Olatokunbo wounded Christian on his right elbow with a broken bottle.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said, “The suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the police at Igbeba Division from one Temitope Adedayo, who runs a beer parlour.
“Upon the report, the acting DPO of Igbeba Division SP Onah Lawrence, led his Anti crime men to the scene where the said Taiwo Olatokunbo, was promptly arrested. The victim was quickly rushed to state hospital Ijebu Ode, for medical attention but gave up the ghost while receiving treatment.”
He added that the suspect had been transferred to the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) on orders of the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Illyasu.
Oyeyemi added that the suspect would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.
