Boko Haram Slaughter 12 Farmers in latest Borno onslaught

As the nation continues to reel from the execution of Hauwa Liman, the humanitarian aid worker with the Red Cross by Boko haram, the terror group has unleashed terror once more in North-east Nigeria, hacking 12 farmers to death and injuring three others severely on Saturday.

The Boko Haram jihadists killed the 12 farmers as they worked on their fields in the volatile northeastern Nigerian state of Borno on Saturday as reported by the civilian JTF militia.

According to the civilian JTF, the insurgents came in two trucks and attacked the famers with machetes outside Kalle, a remote village 17 kilometres outside the state capital Maiduguri.

Boko Haram has stepped up attacks on farmers and loggers in recent years, accusing them of passing information on the group to the military.

A leader of the civilian JTF, Babakura Kolo said;

“They used machetes to kill their victims, who were working on their farms. So far, we have recovered 12 dead bodies from the fields and nearby bush.”

Another civilian JTF leader Ibrahim Liman, further revealed that the Boko haram jihadists had guns but preferred to use machetes so as not to attract the attention of Nigeria Army troops in nearby Molai village.

“When the farmers saw them pulling over close to their crop fields they all ran in different directions but the terrorists pursued them,” Liman said.

While the Boko haram faction loyal to Abubakar Shekau is notorious for deadly attacks on civilian targets, tt was not clear which of the factions was behind this latest attack.

The IS-affiliated faction headed by Al- Barnawi, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) focus mainly on military and high profile targets including Western interests, although they have recently been involved in attacks on civilians like the abduction of the Dapchi School girls and the aid workers abducted in attack on an IDP camp in Borno.
