Saudi Arabian Journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, Confirmed Dead by State Television

It has now been confirmed that Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi Arabian journalist who was living in the United States and was in Turkey, is dead.

The journalist had on numerous occasions spoken out against the Saudi Arabian government was in Turkey and visited the Saudi Arabian consulate in a bid to finalise his divorce from his Saudi wife so he could get married to his Turkish girlfriend.

What then followed was a game of allegations as Turkey accused the Saudi Arabian government of ordering the beheading and murder of Khashoggi while Saudi authorities said that the journalist left the consulate safe and sound.

Following repeated attempts to gain access into the consulate so as to investigate, Turkish security officials were finally able to go in and investigate.

According to reports from Saudi Arabian state television, a fight broke out between Khashoggi and people who met him in the consulate, leading to the death of the reporter.

The Guardian UK also reports that Gen Ahmed al-Asiri, an intelligence official linked to the case, had been dismissed. Eighteen Saudi nationals were said to have been arrested.

Khashoggi was a well-respected journalist and wrote for the Washington Post amongst other things.
