Nigerians React To James Ibori Losing Appeal Against 13-year Conviction In UK

Returned £4.2m Ibori loot, not in our coffers yet -Delta Govt

Nigerians have taken to social media to react to former Delta Governor, James Ibori losing an appeal against his fraud and money laundering conviction in the United Kingdom.

A UK court in 2012 sentenced Ibori to 13 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to stealing and laundering $66 million during his tenure as governor of Delta from 1999 to 2007.

Ibori had approached the Court of Appeal to quash his conviction, an appeal he lost on Wednesday.

“The ruling will allow British prosecutors to resume efforts to confiscate tens of millions of dollars’ worth of assets and return them to Nigerian public coffers,” Reuters reported.

Many commentators took to social media to hail the Appeal Court’s decision, saying it would help to stem the tide of dirty money flow from Nigeria to the United Kingdom.
