The incident occurred at Ariri Village, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State as suspected herdsmen reportedly attacked the village and shot the villagers while they slept.
This incident comes on the heels of unrest in the state for the last two weeks which led to the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

Also during the week, there were confirmed reports of an attack on several student hostels in the University of Jos.
A student was confirmed killed in the incident while another was declared missing as videos circulated all over social media showing an army of men in military fatigues shooting at fleeing students as gunshots could be heard in the background.
Also in Jos, the Army has been searching for a missing retired General, Alkali who is feared dead as his vehicle was recovered from the bottom of a pond alongside many others.
The Military announced that they had arrested several suspects in connection with the disappearance of the Army General despite protests by the community around the Lake being drained and searched by the Nigeria Army.
In this fresh attack however, the residents of the affected communities reiterate that security operatives were yet to respond to calls as at Thursday morning as the corpses of the victims still littered the community.
