Osun 2018: PDP’s the most successful – Ooni of Ife

Ooni of Ife

The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which came second in the just-concluded governorship election in Osun, as the most successful in the election.

The revered traditional ruler, who spoke at the Olofa festival on Sunday, said that the party surpassed the expectations of many people with its performance in the polls.

Recall that the Ooni had refused to vote in the election, saying that all the contestants were his subjects and voting would appear like taking sides.

But speaking about the outcome of the election, which saw the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Gboyega Oyetola emerge victorious, Ooni Ogunwusi said, “Everything I strive for is peace and we have seen that happen in the state of Osun. God really helped us.

“Irrespective of the challenges, I believe that the party that came second actually is the most successful in this election. I can say it because the party proved that people should not be underrated.”

The APC candidate had won the election with 482 more votes than his PDP candidate, Sen. Ademola Adeleke after winning last Thursday’s rerun.

The rerun was called after the Independent National Electoral Commissione (INEC) declared the result of the September 22 governorship election inconclusive.

Adeleke rejected the rerun results that gave Oyetola victory.

But the Ooni added, “The party that came first, (I have to be really neutral) should not rest on their oars. We have achieved a lot in the state and truly truly, every vote matters and every vote counts.”
