Gunmen Abduct Three Lecturers in Kaduna

As Nigerian Political leaders concern themselves with politicking with regard to next year’s general elections, the security situation in the country continues to deteriorate in various parts of the country especially in the middle-Belt and the North with the latest casualties in Kaduna.

The latest casualties of insecurity in the country are three lecturers of the Shehu Idris College of Health in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State who were abducted by gunmen in Kaduna on Tuesday.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the Kaduna State Police Command confirmed the incident saying that the lecturers were abducted on Monday night by suspected Kidnappers.

The spokesperson of the Kaduna state police command, DSP Yakubu Sabo, the lecturers, two women and a man were abducted when they were travelling to Makarfi from Zaria in the Kaduna north senatorial district.

The police PPRO, however, stated that the command’s anti-kidnapping squad has launched a manhunt for the kidnappers and hopes to rescue the victims alive.

This comes as news broke of the murder of a United Nations Aid worker who was kidnapped alongside two others on the 1st of March 2018 by Boko haram insurgents when they attacked an IDP camp in Borno earlier in the year.

The murders came barely a month after an audio tape was released by Boko haram to the press with the aid workers begging the Nigerian government and security forces to rescue them and save their lives; one of them was executed this week.

The killing drew condemnations from the Nigerian government as well as the United Nations.

The BBOG group led by Dr. Oby Ezekwesili paid a condolence visit to the office of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) in Abuja where they demanded that the Nigerian government step up and rescue all persons abducted by Boko haram in the country; including the remaining Dapchi school girl, Leah Sharibu still in the custody of the insurgents.
