Nigerian Ambassador to Qatar Dies, To be Buried in Doha

The Nigerian Ambassador to Qatar, Abdullahi Wase has died in Doha, the Qatari capital on Saturday. The ambassador’s death was announced by the Ministry of foreign affairs through its spokesperson, Tope Elias Fatile who issued a statement regarding the death of Abdullahi Wase in Abuja.

The statement Reads:

“The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, received the news of his death with shock and prayed that God grant his family and the nation the fortitude to bear the great loss.”

The foreign ministry further stated that the late ambassador will be buried in Doha according to Islamic rites by 7pm Nigerian time.

Abdullahi Wase was a non-career diplomat from Plateau state was appointed to oversee the affairs of the Nigerian embassy in Qatar by President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2016.

Prior to his appointment, Abdullahi Wase had a rich and illustrious career in both the public and private and held the following positions at one time or the other;

Client Accounts Representative Total Nigeria (1988- 1993), Deputy Chief Accountant Niger-Guards Organization (1988 – 1993), Senior Accountant and Management Accountant, LAKI flour Mills (1993 -1997), Director representing Plateau at the Bank of Commerce and Industries (1998 – 2005), Special Assistant, Due-Process to the Governor of Plateau (2007).

Dr. Abdullahi carried out several AD-HOC responsibilities throughout his career which include; Pioneer Aids Group Commandant of the Jama’atulIzalatulBida,waikamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) 1979-1982, Chief Adviser/Spokesman Plateau State Ulamaú Elders Council (1999-2017), Chairman- Board of Directors Inter-Faith Mediation Center (2008-2017) and Co-Opted Member- APC Presidential Transition Security Sub-Committee (2015).

Dr. Abdullahi Wase was a well travelled man who travelled to One hundred and two countries on studies, scholarship, research work and personal tours in a career that spanned 41 years in the public service.

He had also lectured lectured at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, taking Graduate and Post-Graduate students on Strategic Management, Advanced Auditing and Investigations, Cost-Accounting and Basic Mathematics, Corporate Finance and Public Policy analysis.
