The Nigerian Immigration Service has said that it has not been compelled by the Federal Government to return the N1,000 application fee paid by the 693,000 applicants in its recruitment tragedy which saw 18 lives lost due to neglect, graft and mismanagement.

NIS spokesman, Emeka Obua told reporters that the NIS had not received any instruction to refund the N1,000 paid  by the applicants.

The Interior Ministry also corroborated the claims as its Special Assistant to the Media, George Ubong stated that no such directive had been received.

Speaking on the outrage surrounding the appointment of Drexel Nigeria Ltd to conduct the exercise and the perceived graft involving the company and the Interior Minister, Ubong said the company was registered as a contractor with the Ministry long before Abba Moro was appointed minister.

In a related development, the Trade Union Congress and Nigeria Labour Congress have both called upon the Federal Government to refund the monies since the government had cancelled the exercise.
