Obasanjo Wears Funny Attire To Name Gorilla In Rwanda (Photo)

1 Min Read

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was in Rwanda on the invitation of Rwanda’s President, Paul Kagame as one of 23 invited dignitaries for the naming of some gorillas on Friday, September 7.

Called Kwita Izina, the event is Rwanda’s annual gorilla naming ceremony.

The event, organised by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) held in the town of Kinigi, at the foothills of the Volcanoes National Park, African News reported.

Twenty-three gorillas born in 2017 were named by all 23 invited dignitaries.

Aside Obasanjo, other dignitaries that were invited for the ceremony include Senegalese-American singer, Akon; former South African First Lady, Graça Machel and African billionaire businessman and entrepreneur, Strive Masiyiwa.

According to Masiyiwa, the invited dignitaries were required to dress in a traditional attire for the naming ceremony.

He said, “The baby-naming ceremony requires the “namers” to be dressed in the traditional Chief’s attire. Baba called me a ‘trainee elder’!”
