Why Paul Pogba’s World Cup Win is A Problem For United

2 Min Read

It’s usually a source of pride when a player with the club you support, wins a World Cup, but as in the case of Paul Pogba, it could also be a problem.

The Frenchman led his country to a World Cup triumph and at the time, many thought that that form would follow him to Manchester and enable him to dominate with the team.

It hasn’t exactly panned out that way, however, and Arsenal icon, Ian Wright thinks it could actually be a headache for United.

Pogba has in recent weeks subject to much speculation about a move to Barcelona which might, or might not materialize.

We’re only in September

Speaking on the show, ‘The Debate’, Wright believes that Pogba’s World Cup win could make him complacent and unwilling to better himself

“In the Premier League, if we are honest, he hasn’t done it consistently,” he said on the show

“Coming back with the World Cup medal has given him a false sense of security and made him think he is bigger than this.

“We need to see more of him and what he is capable of doing.

“I am sure there are teams that would want him and are monitoring the situation.”

Wright also feels that the World Cup could have inflated Pogba’s already considerable ego and that this might have an effect on his relationship with coach, Jose Mourinho, who isn’t a slouch in the ego department either

“There are two massive egos and neither are backing down,” he added.

“Pogba could have easily shut it down but Manchester United fans are thinking: ‘Here we go again’.

“I think Pogba could blast it out of the water by playing well because then Mourinho will have a problem.

“If he keeps playing as he is then Mourinho is in his rights to say he isn’t getting enough.”
