Allegedly Acting On Adamawa Gov’s Instruction, Thugs Attack Ex-SGF Babachir Lawal’s Office

2 Min Read

Suspected political thugs have attacked the office of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal in the Adamawa State capital, Yola.

During the Saturday evening attack, the thugs believed to be agents of the state government, were said to have destroyed three vehicles belonging to political associates of the ex-SGF.

The thugs were said to have chanted, “Sai Bindow, no direct primaries in 2019” before wreaking havoc on the vehicles.

One of Lawal’s political associates said he saw the hoodlums and heard them say, “Sai Bindow, no direct primaries in 2019”

Lawal is believed to be eyeing the Adamawa governorship seat in Adamawa, which is currently occupied by Bindow Jibrilla.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday said the direct primary option would be adopted in all its primaries ahead of the 2019.

This was after it initially said during its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday that only the presidential primary would adopt the direct primary option, and the states would adopt the indirect primary option.

However, the Adamawa State Government denied any involvement in the attack on Lawal’s office.

The Adamawa State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Ahmad Sajoh, while distancing his principal from the attack, said Governor Jibrilla Bindow did not believe in politics of thuggery, saying the act must be that of some desperate politicians attempting to overheat the polity in the state.

Bindow penultimate week denied insinuations that he was considering defecting from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Macaulay Hunohashi, expressed confidence in the administration of Presidentia Muhammadu Buhari and the APC.
