In a classic case of the hunter becoming the hunted, A California man has been mauled by a black bear he shot with an arrow. The man who was hunting the bear with a bow and arrow barely escaped as the animal mauled him within an inch of his life.
Local media reported that the man was hunting alongside two other men in Riverside County’s Banning Canyon where they tracked and shot a black bear with an arrow.
A spokesperson for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Capt. Charles Foy told local press that the hunter had waited before attempting to recover the animal’s carcass but he apparently should have waited a little bit longer.

As he approached the bear to retrieve his price, the 300 pound bear lashed out in fury looking very much alive as it inflicted serious injuries on the hunter.
According to Capt. Foy;
“He was in bad shape with pretty severe injuries. Not fit to be interviewed. The man is reportedly still at a local hospital recovering from his injuries,” he told local newspapers.
His other accomplices told a local news station, KABC that the Bear’s victim was an inexperienced hunter who should have waited longer after shooting the bear to make sure it was dead.
The Dept. of Wildlife spokesperson, Capt. Foy also told the station that the hunter’s deceision was a mistake;
“Approaching an animal that’s injured can be dangerous or can at least put that animal in a position where it’s going to forcibly defend itself thinking it’s under threat,” he said.
The victorious mauling bear has however died of its injuries and was removed from the area.
