A 33-year-old man, Santos Adeshola, who allegedly tampered with the property of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), was on Wednesday brought before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused is being tried for illegal re-connection of public power supply.
The accused, according to the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, committed the offence sometime in June at Zamba Street,
Itire in Surulere area of Lagos.
Osayande alleged that the accused unlawfully reconnected his house to the public power supply after it was disconnected by some EKEDC officials.
She said when the company found out that the accused had illegally reconnected the wires to the electricity pole, the case was reported to the police.
“The line was again disconnected from the pole and they were arrested for questioning.”
The offence contravened Section 1 (10) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act of 1983.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
Chief Magistrate Oluyemisi Adelaja granted him bail in the sum of N20,000 with one responsible surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned until Sept. 5. (NAN)
