John McCain: Trump Rejected White House Tweet Honoring Senator as War Hero

2 Min Read

Following the death of Senator John McCain, Donald Trump has come under fire for his behaviour towards the now deceased War veteran.

McCain died after a long battle with brain cancer and his death has sent the nation into mourning

Trump, however, was reported to have refused to tweet out a post written by the White House staff which called the deceased senator a War Hero, instead he opted to tweet a perfunctory tweet sending condolences to his family.

According to the Washington Post, Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Chief of Staff John F. Kelly and other staff has edited a draft created before McCain passed away but the final version was not approved by Trump.

Mark Corallo, a former Trump legal team spokesperson said that this reaction from the President was unbecoming.

He said “At a time like this, you would expect more of an American president when you’re talking about the passing of a true American hero”

Trump has come under fire for tweeting about his approval ratings rather than the weekend’s biggest stories: Senator McCain’s death and the Shooting at the gaming convention in Florida.

Trump tweeted: ‘Over 90% approval rating for your all-time favourite (I hope) President within the Republican Party and 52% overall,’ he wrote. ‘This despite all of the made up stories by the Fake News Media trying endlessly to make me look as bad and evil as possible. Look at the real villains please!’

Trump and the deceased Senator have had a long history of bad blood with the two constantly criticising each other, from McCain faulting Trump’s press conference with Vladmir Putin where the President had appeared rather weak in standing up to the Russian tyrant to Trump stating that McCain was only considered a war hero because he was captured.

The senator died at the age of 81.
