Chinese Woman Raped and Killed by Taxi Driver

A Chinese woman who happened to be a ride-sharing passenger in the eastern Chinese city of Wenzhou has been raped and killed by a Taxi driver

According to local Police, the Chinese woman surnamed Zhao was raped and killed by a driver of China’s largest ride-hailing firm, Didi Chuxing.

Reacting to the incident, Didi Chuxing the biggest ride sharing company in the world expressed sorrow and regret at the murder through an issued statement.

“We are deeply sorry. We fell short of your expectations. We can’t and we won’t shirk from our responsibilities,” the statement read.

Reacting to the incident, Provincial Authorities in Zhenjiang province, where Wenzhou is located has ordered the ride-sharing company to suspend its carpooling service in the province until safety issues were addressed.

Didi had reported that it was enhancing safety measures for its services after a flight attendant was murdered in May sparking a community wide outrage.

Yueqing city Police reported the latest incident on their blog stating that the Chinese woman entered a Didi carpool vehicle around 1pm on Friday; she sent an SOS message to a friend around 2pm before all contact was lost with her.

Police thereafter arrested the main suspect, a 27 year old driver named Zhong around 4 am on Saturday morning.

Zhong confessed to raping and killing the Chinese woman while in police custody; the police has recovered the corpse of the victim.

The carpooling company Didi insisted that Zhong the killer driver had passed all background checks. Furthermore, he had logged in with his authentic ID and had been confirmed by facial recognition on the day of the murder.

They however observed that Zhong had altered the car’s licence plate before embarking on his murder quest.

Didi also reported that there had been a passenger complaint a day before the Chinese woman was murdered against the killer driver.

The complainant had informed the company that the same driver had repeatedly requested that she sit in the front seat; he then proceeded to drive to a remote area, and followed her for a little while after she got out of the car.

Apparently the customer service representative who took the complaint had not followed up with an investigation within two hours, as the firm promises.
