2 Min Read

The Emir of Daura, Alhaji (Dr.) Umar Farouk Umar (CON), will during the Sallah period confer a traditional title “Dan Baiwan Hausa” on former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu.

The Daura Emirate Council led by Emir Umar made this known in a letter addressed to Kalu and dated August 9.

In the letter, the Council said Kalu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was being honoured for his service to Abia State in particular and Nigeria in general and for his unflinching support for their son, President Muhammadu Buhari.

The letter read in part, “I have the pleasure to write and inform you about the conferment of the traditional title of “DAN BAIWAN HAUSA” on you, in appreciation of your unwavering support to our son, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, Bayajida II.

“Your achievements in youth development are commendable and appreciable, apart from your contribution to the development of Abia State and the country.”

Kalu, who is presently in the United States for medical examination, accepted the traditional title through a letter dated August 16.

New Telegraph quoted Kalu’s Special Assistant on Media, Kenneth Udeh as saying that: “His Excellency, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu will be conferred with the traditional title by the Emir of Daura, the traditional ruler of Mr. President’s hometown.

“This is great news not just for him, but for all Nigerians. Apart from his efforts in promoting the good works of the President and his re-election, it is also in recognition of his selfless strides in preaching peace and unity on the need for peaceful coexistence in the country, regardless of tribe or religious affiliation.

“Not also forgetting his numerous philanthropic and empowerment programmes.

“This shows that we can truly live as one despite our tribe or religious differences.”

Kalu is said to hold more than 200 chieftaincy titles from across the nation.
