Man’s Penis Falls off after he Leaves an Ulcer Untreated for 12 months

2 Min Read

A man’s penis has fallen off after he ignored cancerous warning signs.

The OAP, from India, was suffering from a huge ulcer on his penis, as well as severe swelling and skin shedding.

The 82-year-old man waited 12 months before seeking doctors’ advice on a huge ulcer that had caused severe swelling and skin shedding.

Despite denying any history of sexually transmitted infection, the unnamed gentleman was also found to have hard lumps on his groin.

Dr Gaurav Garg completed a clinical examination on the gentleman and revealed that the ulcer had caused his penis to fall off and he had a type of skin cancer called squamous cell carcinoma

Dr Garg said:

‘In the present case, the patient neglected his initial symptoms and eventually developed penile auto-amputation (his penis fell off), inguinal abscess and widespread metastasis.

‘Auto-amputation of the penis can occur either due to tumour embolism blocking end arteries or due to direct tumour invasion.’

The loss of his penis meant doctors had to construct a catheter in surgery to allow the man to go to the toilet, however after 15 days, the gentleman died.

Tests on the ‘residual penile stump’ showed that he had also had a type of skin cancer, squamous cell carcinoma.

Dr Garg said it was likely the man had ignored his worsening condition due to a lack of knowledge about medical treatments.

Squamous cell carcinoma is a type of non-melanoma skin cancer, this usually occurs on the outer layer.

These keratinocyte cells are mainly found on the face, neck, bald scalps, arms, back of hands and lower legs.

Like most cancers, it can cause dangerous side-effects or even death if left unchecked.
