Another Hollywood Suicide: Superman Actress’ Cause of Death Revealed

2 Min Read

Margot Kidder, the woman who played Lois Lane alongside Christopher Reeve in ‘Superman’, was found dead on the 13th of May.

As at the time, it was reported that Kidder died peacefully in her sleep. Now, reports indicate that it wasn’t as peaceful as first reported and that the actress had actually taken her own life.

This has followed a rather alarming trend in which elites and celebrities have been ending their lives with the recent examples being CNN’s Anthony Bourdain and fashion icon, Kate Spade.

A statement released Wednesday by Park County coroner Richard Wood said she “died as a result of a self-inflicted drug and alcohol overdose”

The Superman actress’ daughter, Maggie McGuane, in a phone interview with the Associated Press, said that she knew immediately she was taken to her mother’s house that it had been a suicide.

“It’s a big relief that the truth is out there,” she said. “It’s important to be open and honest so there’s not a cloud of shame in dealing with this.”

McGuane added that Montana has a high suicide rate and that people should do all they can to get help.

“It’s a very unique sort of grief and pain,” McGuane said. “Knowing how many families in this state go through this, I wish that I could reach out to each one of them.”

A close friend of the Superman actress, Joan Kesich, who also found her body said that she was fearless

“In her last months, she was herself — same kind of love, same kind of energy,” Kesich said. “The challenges that she had were very public. I want what I know about her to be out there because it was glorious. She was really a blazing energy.”

Kidder had had a troubled battle with mental health for a long time which was made worse after she suffered an accident which left her in debt.
