Five people were killed Sunday night after an attack by suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers near Maiduguri.

The suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers attacked Kaleri, a neighbourhood of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The attack claimed the lives of the suicide bombers and injured three others as they detonated their improvised explosive devices at various locations in the neighbourhood.

The explosion occurred around 7:00 p.m when one of the five suicide bombers set off the device on her vest after she walked to one of the houses near Kaleri market and knocked at the gate, pretending to be a visitor.

The other suicide bombers two female, an elderly man and a young boy also hurriedly detonated their suicide vests thereby also killing themselves in the process.

The injured victims of the attack are currently receiving treatment at the state specialist hospital in Maiduguri.

Kaleri is said to be a notorious hideout for Boko Haram members but has never witnessed an attack until now.

The attack comes a day after security forces arrested a Boko Haram member who had infiltrated an IDP camp in Borno state.

Independent news sources have been reporting that Boko haram terrorists have been massing in the Lake Chad region also evidenced by the group’s increased activities.

Boko haram has been active in Cameroon and Niger where it carried out a number of attacks on government troops and jail breaks where it let loose hundreds of prisoners.

The terrorist group has also carried out a number of raids on Nigerian military personnel in the North-east, killing a number of army personnel and also sustaining high level of casualties in the process.

The Federal government has declared victory over the terrorist group but recent events suggest that Boko haram is getting stronger with its ranks bolstered by IS militants escaping from defeat in Syria as well as other additions from Sudan and Mali.
